The story of how the Grinch stole Christmas is probably my favorite of all the tales told this time of year. I love watching the movies, both old and new. I even have a little felt Grinch with a light-up heart hanging on my tree. Perhaps the reason I love the story so much is because each year I seem to go through a similar process of heart softening and growing at Christmas. Although I do not consider myself a grinch, nor do i seek to destroy any who's merriment, I do sometimes have to be reminded that Christmas is much more than boxes and bows. I watch the Grinch movie and read a talk given by Elder Jeffery R Holland entitled "Maybe Christmas Doesnt Come From a Store". This usually is just the reminder I need to soften my heart and remember what Christmast is all about.
Every Who down in Who-ville, the tall and the small,
Was singing! Without any presents at all!
He HADN‘T stopped Christmas from coming!
IT CAME!
Somehow or other, it came just the same!
And the Grinch, with his grinch-feet ice-cold in the snow,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: “How could it be so?”
“It came without ribbons! It came without tags!
“It came without packages, boxes or bags!”
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!
“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store.
Maybe Christmas … perhaps … means a little bit more!”
